First Attempt at filming

Our first attempt at filming was yesterday, however we discovered a few issues with our filming.
1. Our film seems to be too dark, I am trying to edit it to brighten the picture to see if it is okay, but if it doesn't work we may have to go back and reshoot at a lighter time of day.
2. We didn't have a tripod, so some shots may be slightly shaky, something I would like to address with a reshoot

EDIT: During editing I found it actually looked okay, despite the apparent darkness so I think we may continue shooting in the dark

Photo Storyboard

Photo Storyboard

As you can see we have made our story board with photo's instead of the usual drawing. This allows us to work out how the shots work together and as I have used music over the top (not the final music piece, just a test), we can work out what music suits the film. Also it allows us to work out whether our story is long enough (2 minutes), which in this case it is.

This intro is a perfect example of an intro without any actual acting. The use of the creepy, eerie music with a non-diegetic soundtrack is very effective, and sets the viewer up for an eerie and uncomfortable viewing experience. The use of the close ups of the pen and the fingers in-between names is another very effective technique used by the intro makers, as it highlights usually unimportant details that we normally wouldn't pick out as a viewer, for example the underlining of words on the text. I would like to utilise close-ups in my film opening, as they can be very effective if used correctly and can build tension and create shock. The use of the effects on the text of the actors names, flickering and stuttering, if another thing I like a lot about this opening. The text isn't the usual fade-in fade-out film text style, and the use of this text is very effective to the film as it sets the creepy and eerie atmosphere once more, as we are expecting a disjointed and confusing film. The use of showing no faces or people creates ambiguity as we are left not knowing who is underlining or sewing, and we have no idea what kind of character the supposed protagonist is. The final thing I like is the use of the quick cutting speed to show the frantic nature of this character's actions. I would like to utilise this in my opening too as it builds up tension and creates a frantic atmosphere

Shooting Schedule

Planning: Film Shooting Schedule

We will shoot the film over the course of a week spanning across a five to seven lesson period. Any target that isn't reach will be made up or in allocated slots so the film is finished on time.

Wednesday   30/01  -  On the first Wednesday after our planning has been completed we will begin
filming the opening scene of the character within the room flicking through the
channels and searching around the room for the package.
Thursday       31/01  -  On Thursday, dependent on the progress of our first scene filming, we can
either carry on with the remainders in the room or we can work on the shots of
the exterior of the building and the CCTV style footage used during this.
Monday         04/02  -  On the following Monday of the next week, we can focus on the finishing of th                                    route towards the secondary character through the alley ways.
Tuesday        05/02  -  Depending on the progress of the film, Tuesday can be used to finish up any
final filming that is needed or to check through the clips to make sure that no
excess footage is needed and that the clips will flow together in editing.
Wednesday   06/02  -  After review of the clips in previous days, This Wednesday can be used to
gather excess clips or retake some clips we aren't happy with.

*UPDATE* We will not be filming within lessons as there are too many possible continuity errors involved with filming during lessons 22/1/13

Target Audience

Target Audience

Our film is going to be aimed at a teenage audience, which means we cannot use too much explicit content as otherwise the film may be classified as 18, essentially ruling out the majority of our target market. We have tried to combat this by including no direct fight scenes or explicit language in our film opening, and have left a package as unmarked and not said to be anything, letting our audience work it out for themselves. We think our film opening will be suitable for the teenage audience as it is action-packed and very tense, appealing to a wide variety of people but specifically teens. Also the protagonist and many of the characters in our film opening will be teenagers, again relating to our target audience and showing how we are trying to address this audience.
Our film would most likely be produced and distributed by a UK independent film distributor, such as Entertainment Film or Icon, who have distributed and produced films like Dredd,Buried and Alex Cross.
